The state of science

The anguish expressed by Professor C.N.R. Rao should be taken in the right spirit, and as a wake-up call by our administrators and the entire scientific community. It is a fact that India produces enough scientists every year. Young scientists, however, know there is only limited scope for employment or for pursuing postdoctoral research in the country unless they have a strong background. It is not surprising that most of them head to the West where talent is encouraged and welcomed with open arms.
