Sarabjit Singh is a death row prisoner in Pakistan. He is in a critical condition due to severe injuries inflicted on him by fellow prisoners in Lahore. The Pakistan government has put him under good medical care and allowed his family from India to visit him in hospital. India should pray that Sarabjit survives. We shouldn’t be questioning the standard of security in Pakistan’s prisons and its medical facilities.
A prime accused in the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old in Delhi committed suicide in the high security Tihar jail within days of his imprisonment. The government did not allow Afzal Guru’s family to take his mortal remains from the jail cemetery to its home for a proper burial. People living in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
Col C.V. Venugopalan (retd.),
For every trigger pulled by India, Pakistan retaliates with greater intensity. If the Indian army kills a Pakistani soldier for infiltrating into Indian territory, the Pakistani army beheads two of our soldiers after entering into our territory. India is a paralysed tiger in a cage. Even a small nation like the Maldives can taunt us. My prayers for the poor unlucky Sarabjit!
Of late, we find India being beaten black and blue by its neighbours on various fronts. It is a tragedy that a country which has ideas of becoming a superpower remains a mute spectator to insults and intimidation. The brutal and murderous attack on Sarabjit Singh is a blow to not only our foreign policy but also the efficacy of our policymakers who manage such issues.
