The reign ends

Australia pulled out all stops in its convincing victory over India in the World Cup cricket semi-final (March 27). The result may have disheartened millions of Indian cricket fans, but one should agree that cricket is a game of great uncertainty. Judging a cricketer’s performance from a single match does not mean that the future of the Indian team is on the wane.

The quality of debate in the media just after the loss was shameful and deplorable. Accepting defeat gracefully is something the Indian media can never do. In hindsight it is easy to ask questions and have TV anchors ask bizarre and absurd questions. But bullying the captain and players in the most crude manner possible is uncalled for.

The two top teams have made it to the finals. Let us accept that.

Ram,
