Russian President Vladimir Putin’s whirlwind visit (Dec.12) and the signing of agreements that are significant, once again proves the importance of deep-rooted ties between India and Russia. That there will be cooperation in energy, infrastructure and defence is welcome news. We must also seek to harness the proven capabilities of Russia in space technology.

Mr. Putin may be shunned by the western world, but the fact that he was received warmly in India shows that Russia is a reliable friend. India must take additional steps to promote Russia as its foremost development partner. The government deserves praise for the smooth manner in which several significant deals were signed.

Allam Chaitanya Kumar,

Hyderabad

The scope and range of the strategic partnership between India and Russia cannot be surpassed. The fact that major agreements were signed shows that there are no strains whatsoever in India-Russia relations. In addition, they have opened up a new chapter for the two good friends to work together for peace and development.
