The decision of the Election Commission to invalidate the votes cast by the two rebel Congress MLAs in the Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat is not only a slap on the face of these defectors but also the avaricious and undemocratic BJP. It is unfortunate that a party which considers itself to be a part of a parent right-wing organisation — and a disciplined entity — should stoop to this level to grab power. In going by the rule book and standing steadfast in its decision despite political pressure, the Election Commission deserves accolades.
