The Enayam port

July 11, 2016 12:03 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:36 pm IST

Why does there have to be another port on the western coast of Tamil Nadu? Its proximity to other major ports is ill-advisable. If the intent of the government was to fulfil its election manifesto, there needs to be a rethink (Editorial, July 9). The money can be better spent upgrading facilities in existing ports in the area. Global trade using shipping is low and caution is the best way forward. Enayam should not end up being another white elephant like Sri Lanka’s extravagant Hambantota.
