The disabled and voting

It was saddening to read about the plight of the disabled when it comes to exercising their electoral rights (“Disabilities of our democracy,” April 25). The Election Commission of India needs to take steps with the use of technology to set things right. If India is an example of being one of the most successful democracies in the world, then why is this so difficult? There also needs to be better infrastructure in polling booths.

At least two per cent of Rajya Sabha seats must be reserved for the disabled. The President should also take steps to nominate at least two persons with disabilities out of every 12 MPs on a State-wise basis.
