I see nothing wrong in the reasoning that Krishna’s blue complexion denotes his glory which is “infinite like the blue sky and the blue sea” (“Gujarat school books turn the clock back on racism,” July 29). In fact, Rajaji is stated to have told Swami Vivekananda that, in response to a question. But the use of the word ‘negro’ is deplorable and should go.

While supporting Dinanath Batra’s textbook, Bhaskar Patel of the Ahmedabad Shala Sanchalak Mandal has reportedly asked whether Christian missionary schools do not prescribe moral science textbooks. Moral science books contain stories from all religions and anecdotes from the lives of people holding different beliefs. I studied in a convent school in the 1950s. Catholic students attended religious instruction classes and others were asked to go for moral science classes. Mr. Patel should check his facts before making statements.
