Still unsung

While it was a pleasure to read about the achievements of veteran social worker Savithri Vaithi — who has set up homes to take care of the old and the needy — it was surprising to note that she has yet to receive a Padma award, or an Independence Day award of the Tamil Nadu government. We do hope that her pioneering work in the service of the elderly and the destitute will be recognised and the grave omission set right.
