“The disturbing truth about an execution” (March 13) was a bold and thought-provoking article. I agree that the secrecy surrounding Afzal Guru’s hanging and depriving him of a chance to approach the courts were illegal.
But we should not forget that we are not talking about just anybody here. Special cases need special ways. Of course, secrecy is definitely not the way of the developed.

By getting involved in the attack on Parliament, Afzal Guru proclaimed his lack of faith in the Constitution; rather, he disowned it. How, then, can he enjoy the rights enshrined in it? International terrorism was unknown when the Jail Manual was drafted. It needs to be revised.
