Slate and pencil

April 29, 2016 01:35 am | Updated 01:35 am IST

In an era of the notebook, both paper-based and electronic, the report, “Markapur’s slate writes a new chapter” (April 28), on how the industry still gets orders from within and outside the country, is interesting. In days gone by, slates were used in schools to hone one’s handwriting, mathematical and drawing skills. If one talks about this now, it invites derision. If nothing else, children should be encouraged to read the report for them to get an idea about how conventional slates are made.
