The Hindu has rightly underlined the urgency to push forward the process of negotiations between India and China on the border issue (“ >Moving forward to stand still ,” May 21).
If China and India are indeed “destined to be together,” Beijing must back New Delhi’s claim for a seat in the U.N. Security Council. It must drop its claim on Arunachal Pradesh and declare that Kashmir is an integral part of India. Nehru’s Panch Sheel doctrine must be followed by both countries in letter and in spirit.

Premier Li’s visit to India could usher in a new dawn and strengthen the Sino-Indian friendship. To New Delhi's credit, it must be said that it made no bones about its dissatisfaction with the recent Chinese incursion in Ladakh. The India-China border row has been a core concern, and it would be in the interest of both countries to resolve the ticklish issue.
