The front page photograph with the caption “Congress on the rampage” (Sept. 7) of a protester raising a huge log over his head to strike a woman constable is shocking. While the party alleges that the Opposition is bent on perpetrating violence, its own cadres went berserk during a protest march in Bhubaneswar injuring over 200 people, including police personnel.
The recent violence in Assam and Mumbai has not yet faded from people’s memory. Since violence begets violence, it should be nipped in the bud.
Although mob violence and disruption of law and order are not new to our nation, it is disturbing to note the increasing attacks on women police. They were targeted even during the Azad Maidan protests.
