Road map for Telangana

Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. The new rulers of Telangana would do well to remember that fulfilling the aspirations of the people should take precedence over raking up issues of the past, which would only harm the objectives of their 60-year struggle. Stoking regional prejudices and employing political opportunism to settle scores with fellow Telugu brothers would in no way help the new Chief Minister (“KCR is first CM of Telangana,” June 3). In an era where development is the mantra , Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao should come up with out-of-the-box ideas to make the new State a model in terms of development and progress. The first discordant note was struck as the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate, N. Chandrababu Naidu, remained absent at his Telangana counterpart’s swearing-in.

Entrepreneurs in both States must be allowed to invest in both States, in order to reduce regional imbalances. The trust deficit can also be reduced by collectively sorting out disputes over water-sharing, power and irrigation projects and investment.
