Rabies burden

August 08, 2016 12:29 am | Updated 12:29 am IST

Rabies is 100 per cent fatal but 100 per cent preventable (‘Weekend Being’ page – “India’s avoidable rabies burden”, Aug. 7). I hope animal rights activists support moves to immunise and control the large stray dog population in India. It is the poor and children who often fall victim to rabies. If untreated, it is a traumatic experience for all associated with the patient. If India has been successful in eliminating small pox and polio, why not rabies? We have the knowledge and the tools but lack the will to make a difference.
