Qadri’s politics

January 19, 2013 12:18 am | Updated 12:18 am IST

The timing of Tahir-ul Qadri’s protest says it all (“The politics of a messiah,” Jan. 18). He certainly has the blessings of the Pakistan army and the judiciary.

His call for electoral reforms is welcome as it will benefit India also. The fact that the PPP government is set to complete its term amid the melee is indeed significant.

Qadri supported the 1999 military coup before leaving Pakistan. He is over-ambitious and that is what is behind his million-man march. The Pakistani army is making people feel that their democratically elected government cannot deliver.
