The CNN-IBN-The Hindu election tracker survey cannot be treated as just another piece of news. The ruling UPA and the Opposition should be serious about the findings. They should strive hard to address people’s issues lest the masses should treat them like the voters in Surendra’s cartoon of July 27 (“Don't worry, we’re distancing ourselves from you”).

The survey has highlighted the fortunes of only major political parties. It would be good if a survey is also conducted on some of the lesser known citizen-centric parties, especially those that have come up at regional levels. This will make citizens aware that there are parties other than the Congress, the BJP and the well known State parties. They can then make a more informed choice.
