The photograph of a teenager engaged in laying telephone cables in Palaymkottai (“Lost childhood,” May 14) brought tears to my eyes. The youngster seems to be despondently looking at a stone tablet where his fate has been inscribed. The expression of anguish on his face and the strain on those arms portray an evocative picture that is indeed heart-rending. Are those with excess wealth looking at such images?
