Every Indian must be proud that >Kailash Satyarthi is the joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his exemplary work in upholding the rights of children. While the world has acknowledged his greatness and awarded him the coveted prize, one wonders what kind of focus the national media gave to his work over the last few decades till the time of his being awarded the Peace Prize. One wishes the media also focusses their attention on positive aspects taking place within India.

The irony couldn’t be starker; India and Pakistan are engaged in an episode of escalating border tensions and two eminent citizens from either nation win the most coveted prize — for peace! One hopes that the laureates take the initiative to spread peace and that the political leadership in both countries step up efforts to stop the bloodshed. One also celebrates the fact that children and their future are the focus of this year’s prize.
