Apart from paying tribute to his teacher through his article “Our sterling teacher in the prison” (Open Page, Sept. 18), who transformed him into an erudite writer, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim has brought to light the sufferings of inmates. That even ordinary prisoners attended Sister Ethu Kutty's English classes “to overcome stress” speaks volumes of the urgency to initiate prison reforms.
Anyone who read the article would appreciate that jails can also become places to mould prisoners into respectable citizens.

The article was brilliant and unusual, where a prison became a classroom and prisoners became pupils. It proves that if both the teacher and the student are dedicated, the result is sure to be 100 per cent perfect, though not by way of scoring marks but in terms of the evolvement of the individual. The way the article has been written is proof enough that Mr. Ibrahim has learnt to express his thoughts in a lucid manner.
