On Thenkachi

In the passing away of Thenkachi Ko. Swaminathan, we have lost a charismatic man, who gained spectacular popularity through his daily Tamil programme “Indru Oru Thagaval” (a piece of information today) on All India Radio at a time when the impact of television was catching on, really fast. My two children listened to the programme with rapt attention without fail.

I am sure listening to his programme was a regular feature in most families.

It was a shock to me and thousands of AIR listeners like me to hear about the demise of Thenkachi Ko. Swaminathan. The day never started for our family without listening to “Indru Oru Thagaval.”

My grandmother who is no longer alive was a fan of the programme, particularly the tip that came at the end of the story laced with humour.
