On NEET

May 31, 2016 12:09 am | Updated 12:09 am IST

After reading the Editorial (May 26), the report, “ >Ordinance is silent on fees, NEET scores ” (Some editions, May 25) and readers’ reactions in “Letters to the Editor”, on NEET, I wish to point out that the most important point has been omitted by all. Though education is in the concurrent list of subjects, nobody has touched upon the point. So, it is obligatory on the part of Central government officials to have proper discussions with State government officials before taking any important decision on the subject. Courts may not be unduly concerned about the consequences and implications of judgments as seen in interactions between the judiciary and the executive. This is one of the many deficiencies many of us have come across.

In my suggestions in “Reform in Judiciary Set up” to the Constitution Review Committee in June 2000, I had said that all laws, and their legality, passed by Parliament should be confirmed by the Supreme Court before obtaining the President’s assent.
