The recent articles and editorials in The Hindu stressing the legitimacy of actions as per U.S. laws implicitly call for similar actions to prove that India too has some laws even if poorly enforced. If this is the case, all Indian workers in embassies and high commissions have to be paid American wages as they work, technically, in U.S. territory; there cannot be any discrimination between the salaries of U.S. and Indian employees rendering similar work under Indian labour laws. Finally, diplomacy is all about nuanced reciprocity, civility and respect.
