The article “Aadhar: on a platform of myths” (July 18) on the UID project was quite timely, if not late, as it was based on facts. The project's costs could exceed Rs.50,000 crore, it is on-going, and hence we cannot afford any delay in implementing it. Perhaps Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), must clear the myths.

It is true that the government has decided to implement the project in haste. If it failed in the U.K., a more “developed” country, there must be a rethink. A large section of our society is illiterate. Corruption runs deep and there are forces which would like to see the end of this project. A lot of thinking should have gone into the implementation of such a vast project.
