It is unrealistic to expect a politician like the Telangana Chief Minister to acknowledge Hyderabad’s standing as an educational hub. He should show the grace and the understanding to treat Andhra students on a par with Telangana students (“No aid for Andhra students,” July 24). If Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao felt the fee reimbursement scheme involved irregularities, the fee amount should be remitted into each student’s bank account. What can we expect next? A law prohibiting citizens from Andhra from setting up educational institutions in Telangana? Federalism and self-rule does not allow for any form of apartheid.

The reported move is in bad taste and can affect the future of thousands of students. It is ironical that students from both regions who share a common mother tongue now face discrimination. Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao’s act vitiates societal harmony. As an experienced politician, he must display political sagacity.
