The formal exchange of enclaves between India and Bangladesh is indeed historic (“National Flag unfurled to loud cheers”, Aug.2) For many, seven decades of a stateless existence has finally come to an end. The onus is now on India and Bangladesh to help their new citizens break free from a life of abject poverty. The most fundamental necessities of transportation, sanitation, health care and education must be extended to them at the earliest.
