This refers to the article “Trade in the ghosts of 1962” (Nov. 15). It is true that an emphasis on trade relations does overcome problems like border issues, territorial claims and hegemonic attitudes. That said, in the case of China and India, the ballooning trade deficit in favour of Beijing is a matter of concern for India. This problem is perhaps due to our overemphasis on the services sector in contrast to China giving importance to the manufacturing sector.
