MGNREGA

The initiative taken by the Ministry of Rural Development to evaluate the working of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is commendable (“Much more than a survival scheme,” Aug. 31). Such detailed analyses by credible academicians are bound to be useful to the government.

The Sameeksha will certainly help clarify the doubts of sceptics, besides providing an honest feedback. Such evaluation under efficient oversight can be adopted by all Ministries to bring in transparency and uproot corruption.

V. Subramanian,

Chidambaram

Amid the doom and gloom, and criticism of anything and everything done by the government, it was great to read the article by Aruna Roy and Nikhil Dey. No one expects everything to be hunky dory with MGNREGA; but it is nice to know that such a massive programme has delivered.

Bhanoji Rao,
