This refers to the editorial “What’s in a name? A life” (June 29), on the media faux pas in both India and Pakistan on reporting the “Sarabjit to be released” story. I appreciate the bold stand taken by The Hindu in stating the facts and owning up its own mistake. Apart from causing pain to Sarabjit Singh’s family, the misreporting showed the media on both sides of the border in a bad light. Rather than admit that it was a human error, many sections of the media went overboard to defend their blunder and create unnecessary tensions at the level of people and governments.
