All the hype and hoopla surrounding the United States presidential election are the making of the media. The ground reality is that common Americans are too busy getting their lives back on track after the financial crisis. Yes, in any contest there is a winner and celebrations will follow. But it would be an irony for a candidate to raise a toast while the U.S. is in the throes of a never ending war and there is continued unemployment and lack of health care support to the elderly.

The U.S. election campaign looked like a war between black and white. Polarisation based on race is a threat to a modern democracy anywhere in the world. It is an extreme form of social stratification and discrimination.
