The stampede that broke out at the railway station at Allahabad during the Maha Kumbh Mela (Feb.11) again raises questions about crowd and disaster management in public spaces. The blamestorming has begun. But the fact is that the Kumbh Mela is much different from what it was years ago and when there were less people. The time has come to scientifically manage the event. One wonders whether the Indian Space Research Organisation can help in this with advances in space photography and which can then be used in crowd management.
