Loss of a poet

July 30, 2016 12:05 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:37 pm IST

The Hindu has paid a rich tribute to Tamil poet Gnanakoothan whose death marks the end of an era in the movement for modern Tamil literature (“His pen bridged the divide between classicism, modernity”, July 29). Known for employing sarcasm and humour powerfully in his poems, Gnanakoothan had carved out a special space for himself in Tamil literature. While he was mild-mannered and gentle in attitude, his poems were uncompromising in their force and message. His works will remain relevant for generations to come.
