One of the laws of Physics states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (“Congress insists on Leader of the Opposition post,” June 13). The Opposition’s role is nothing short of this and it has to be applied in a constructive manner. There needs to be a strong and cohesive voice for the 68 per cent people who did not vote for the ruling party. It may be a good idea to revisit the concept of a cut-off percentage for Opposition parties in a diverse country like India.

The Congress appears to be grasping at straws in a desperate attempt to make its presence felt. Voters rejected the party decisively. The manner in which the Smriti Irani issue and the V.K. Singh affidavit issue were raised shows the Congress does not have anything substantive to discuss in Parliament. The party needs to reinvent itself before it can dream about parliamentary posts.
