Kudos to Burney

The efforts made by Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney (along with Sindh Governor Ishrat Ul Abad) to secure the release of Indian and Pakistani sailors on board mv Suez are highly commendable (“Tearful reunion for Pakistanis,” June 24.) I am unable to think of the right words to applaud and thank him and the Pakistani establishment in getting the Indian sailors who were part of the crew released from Somali pirates, and ensuring their safe passage to India. This is a great humanitarian gesture and a step towards bringing the two neighbours together. The Indian government should reciprocate by ensuring that the Pakistani sailors, reportedly stranded in India for the past few months, are sent back safely. It would be in the interest of human rights issues between the two nations if the release of ailing Pakistani national in India, Dr. Mohammad Khalil Chisti, is not delayed any further.
