The farmer’s rally, more the relaunch vehicle for Rahul Gandhi, seems to have gone off well (“ >Modi repaying corporates: Rahul ”, April 20). Let’s be fair to Rahul; he is neither a great orator nor an effective communicator, but he talks straight to the point and has his ways of putting across his viewpoints.
The two-month-long “layoff” has certainly rekindled people’s curiosity about him. The land Bill has now given Mr. Gandhi a platform to take on the government in Parliament. He should now walk the talk and must take an active role in the Lok Sabha. The ruling party will of course try to dislodge him using the controversial Robert Vadra land deal but Rahul should not shy away from tackling ticklish issues. It’s almost now or never for both Rahul and the Congress.

The land Bill is pro-industrialist and farmers have every right to be concerned about their land being taken over for profiteering. The BJP-led NDA government claimed that it is ‘kisan friendly’ but its actions show otherwise. A large section of farmers are already facing a host of problems and the government must help them.
