Kalahandi mirror

We claim to be the fastest growing economy in the world in terms of GDP, one of the highest FDI receiving destinations of the world, and home to entrepreneurs who are among the world’s richest. We have also attempted a space mission to Mars successfully. However, incidents such as the one reported from Kalahandi (“Women dismantle roof for mother’s funeral in Odisha”, Sept.25) leave me confused, reminding me of Amartya Sen’s view of our Indian “glory” as “an uncertain glory”.

What is the use of this glory if many Indians such as Kanak Satpathy live and die a life as “less than a human being”?
