I do not agree that over the years the social action dimension of public interest litigation has been diluted (“Disturbing trends in judicial activism,” Aug. 6). Do not omissions/commissions of the public authorities constitute social action? The Supreme Court’s directions on emissions, ragging, etc., have immensely benefited people. Probes were ordered in many scams, including the 2G, only because of the court’s intervention. In rushing to court to redress a grievance against a public authority, citizens may be digressing from their responsibility of making legislators and the executive responsible for their actions. But what faster and effective mode does the common man have?
