I-T notice to Congress

July 11, 2014 02:06 am | Updated 02:06 am IST

The income tax notice to the Congress party in the controversial National Herald case (“ >Sonia says I-T notice a political witch-hunt ,” July 10) has been termed by the party and Ms. Gandhi as an act of vindictiveness on the part of the Modi government. If that is the case, what is the word in the dictionary that can describe the incessant and merciless hounding of Mr. Modi by the UPA-I and -II governments from 2004 to May 2014? The “secular” Congress resorted to all means, legal or otherwise, to politically tarnish Mr. Modi’s image. Finally, it was left to the ultimate masters of the situation, namely, the electorate, to show the party its place.

The Nehru-Gandhi family appears to think that it is above the law. Now, when it might have to face the music, it talks about vindictive motives. Let the family face the law and prove its innocence. It is time the culture of following the law of the land is nurtured irrespective of the government of the day.

The I-T notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the Congress is politically motivated and displays intent to take revenge on the Gandhi family. The fact is that the person who filed the private criminal complaint is known to nurse animosity towards the family. I feel that the BJP does not have any evidence and will not be able to convince the court of any wrongdoing. The Congress needs to expose the politics behind the move.
