I became a victim of polio at the age of two. Does being lame mean a person is weak, defective and incapable? The headline “India was lame and tame” (May 15) for Peter Roebuck's column is, to say the least, an insult to disabled persons like me.
I have also come across expressions such as “limping back to normalcy” in The Hindu ’s esteemed columns. I do not think that the mental and emotional pain that we, the disabled, go through while coming across such heartless expressions can be adequately compensated. At least hereafter, I hope such expressions will be avoided.
