India-Pakistan talks

September 01, 2014 12:15 am | Updated April 21, 2016 05:24 am IST

The decade-old truce between India and Pakistan has been frayed by Pakistan’s ceasefire violations (Editorial, “ >Talk to ease tensions ,” Aug. 30). India should take a strong stand during bilateral talks. It is all the more necessary in view of the coming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Ceasefire violations and border issues may lead to an increase in violence in the Valley. Talks are necessary to maintain peace in the region.

Pakistan and India should stop making Kashmir the core issue. Instead, they should focus on trade, water-sharing, Siachen and similar issues. The two countries have been fighting over Kashmir for 67 years. It is not Gaza or Syria.
