Arun Maira has rightly pointed to the need for the growth of the manufacturing sector (“Pulling manufacturing out of the rut,” Sept. 19).
We will need jobs in the coming years. It is time our policymakers cleared the way for growth. If the youth are not engaged judicially, the demographic dividend will become a demographic curse.

The drastic emergence of the tertiary sector made everyone forget the significance of manufacturing. One hopes the government will pay attention to the sector now.

Our planners have not given due importance to infrastructure such as road, electricity, and transport. Also, complications and hurdles in getting permission to start an industry have curbed the initiative of enthusiastic entrepreneurs, especially in the MSME sector. Inter-ministerial disputes also cause delays.
