The murder of an Indian youth, Nitin Garg, in Melbourne on Sunday was a heinous and barbaric act. Attacks on Indians in Australia do not seem to be for gain. They appear racially motivated. New Delhi’s efforts in the matter have been to no avail. The matter should be taken to the U.N.

The atrocities against Indian students in Australia are on the rise. The assaults have taken a dangerous turn with the fatal stabbing on Sunday. Platitudes by our External Affairs Minister will not help our students. The Prime Minister should take up the issue with his Australian counterpart.
