The tale of Malala Yousafzai, the school girl from Swat on whom the Taliban made an assassination attempt for defending girls’ right to education, is heart-rending. The magnitude of violence the young girl was subject to is shocking. The episode has stirred the hearts of an extraordinary number of girls across Pakistan and precipitated outpourings of outrage. It was heartening to read about Malala’s friends who refused to identify her even at gunpoint. They will win. They are all Malala.

Malala’s courage is incredible. She has reaffirmed our faith in humanity which is above religion, caste and gender. She has shown us what it means to be a true Muslim. She has taught a great lesson to all religious fundamentalists who are trying to divide human beings in the name of God.
