It is indeed most unfortunate that a retired judge could have done such a thing (Nov.13). What is most worrying is that it now involves people of the legal profession. The judiciary is the last bastion of justice if everything else fails in society. If the intern’s allegations are true, there are no words left to condemn the incident.
One also needs to ask the intern why she kept quiet for so long. However, it is heartening that the Chief Justice has been quick to act.

The Chief Justice’s action looks more like a departmental enquiry than a detailed investigation. Judges are highly respected by society and should subject themselves to higher standards of accountability. If all are equal before the law, there is no reason why the law enforcement agencies should be kept away till the committee comes out with its report.
Why can’t the blog written by the intern be treated as a written complaint? Internal enquiries, however impartial, seldom receive unqualified public approval.

It is really appalling that in our nation, even judges are not without charges. One is reminded of a line in the popular Tamil film Thangapathakam : “People go to god when they are grieved; where can they go if god himself is grieved?” If gold rusts, what will happen to iron?
