Mary has become a symbol of national integration with the media dedicating its space and time generously to celebrate her victory. The win is indeed more than an achievement for the woman who raced against all the odds to achieve this feat.

I would like to draw attention to the increasing achievements of women in London Olympics. The victory of Mary Kom, who was first told to quit because of her physical structure, is no doubt an example of courage, determination and ability. She had made women proud in a male-dominated society. People should encourage their daughters and sisters to aspire for better living. Who knows, we may have a Saina Nehwal or Mary Kom at home.
