Congratulations to Pran, the grand old baddie of Bollywood, who has won the Dada Saheb Phalke award at the ripe old age of 93. The award has indeed come very late in the day. Apart from his usual villainous roles, he is remembered fondly for his memorable roles in Aah, Upkaar, Victoria No. 203 and Zanjeer. For more than half-a-century, his name remained constant while the heroes cast against him ranged from Dilip Kumar to Amitabh Bachchan.

It is heartening to note that the legendary reel life villain has won the Dada Saheb Phalke award for his contribution to cinema. He became an actor by chance and turned into a villain for convenience. In Zanjeer, he made a mark and was more impressive than the hero, Amitabh Bachchan.
