Garland issue

The Mayawati currency garland issue has attracted a lot of attention in the last few days. Even the media, perhaps going through a content crisis, created a lot of furore over the issue. There are so many politicians in India who have been doing the same in the past but the media hardly bothered to highlight the instances. The media should pay more attention to development issues. And they should have a more balanced approach towards political leaders.

The currency garland episode needs to be viewed in the context of the effect it will have on the administration in Uttar Pradesh and the other States across the country. The debate is not about Ms Mayawati but her act of accepting huge currency garlands, which can demoralise the whole country into believing that the country is coming to ruin.
