An official of high standing with a credible track record was forced to submit his resignation in a dishonourable manner based on the complaint of a law intern. While any person who makes such sexual advances as alleged does deserve to be punished, the allegation must be first proved by a competent body. Else, the law would be rendered a farce and misused, leaving honest officers vulnerable in the future. What is more, women’s protection laws may also lose their credibility. The law intern must not fail to pursue the case to a concrete conclusion.

If the law intern does not wish to proceed further with the case, Justice Ganguly himself must come forward to resolve the matter of his guilt/innocence. Cases of this type are bound to create outcomes that will serve as precedents for generations to come.
