Freedom at stake

June 13, 2013 02:25 am | Updated October 04, 2013 07:33 am IST

This refers to the interview with Edward Snowden (June 11). America’s obsession with its security has developed into a full-blown paranoia. That a freedom-loving individual has to seek the hospitality of a Chinese city to expose the American attack on civil liberties and freedoms is a powerful slap in the face of the U.S. One needs to question if the democracy of the single largest power is worth it, if the citizenry of the entire world has to have its privacy and freedom compromised.

The young man has put all his resources, relationships, bonds and personal security at stake. He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
