It is clear that the Centre does not want to face the reality in Andhra Pradesh (“Paralysis is not an option,” Oct. 2). It was the same attitude that led to the Telangana agitation turning violent three years ago. The only way to resolve the issue is to talk to the leaders of the agitation. It is time the Centre dived into the sea of unrest to find a lasting solution.

The contentious part of the issue lies in splitting Hyderabad, a well developed city. It is not known why the stand taken on Chandigarh while carving out Haryana from Punjab cannot be adopted through meaningful negotiations in the case of Hyderabad as well. It is not in the fitness of things to postpone a decision on the Telengana issue.

The UPA government’s continuing procrastination on the issue is condemnable. The Congress is only inviting more trouble for itself. The party’s political games are fraught with dangerous consequences.
